    ImageFREE- Closing Reception Sunday, December 14 3PM - 6PM

The “o” form is the foundation of Niki Shapiro’s six-week residency in which she will construct a suspended igloo from recycled materials within the MicroClimate Project Space. This is part of her resident project FREE, where Shapiro will collect magazines and catalogs forfeited by friends, neighbors and the local community on weekdays 5-8pm beginning November 1st and continuing throughout the month of November. After deconstructing the glossy colorful pages and sorting them by color family, stapled rings are attached to each other creating organic and porous web-like structures.

Mark Growden- get here early!

Image

Multi-instrumentalist singer/ songwriter. Will he play a banjo, an accordion, or a bicycle handlebar? We'll leave it to others to describe what he does: "Torrid lyricism and fierce accordion rascality. His live shows are becoming the stuff of legend." - East Bay Express. "Mark Growden has to be one of California's most colorful and intriguing musicians...Growden is a genius..." - Albuquerque Alibi. "A sight and sound you don't want to miss." - S.F. Bay Guardian "Growden’s Music
is a calliope of tangos, marches, pedal steel blues, and eloquent acoustic ballads. In his hands, parade scores unravel to become inebriated waltzes. Ballads are stretched thin and poked with forks. Melodies dance like wicked children. He’s adept at knockingtraditional notions of music slightly off-kilter, to better fit our ears." — John Paczkoski, S.F. Bay Guardian

8 Legged Monster & Lorin Benedict

ImageTuesday, December 9 8PM $&- $15 sliding

The 8-Legged Monster They breathe Bebop like a dragon breathes fire - hot and nasty. Their take: "The time is now for original/composed music to revitalize the Jazz scene in the bay area. It's a simple rationale - We know what kind of music we like and since our opinion of our own musical tastes is elevated to an ostensibly preposterous level, the only logical deduction we could make is that everybody must love the music that we do. With that in mind, if we make music that we like - EVERYONE must like it. But, we do make these promises: Our music will always be fresh and never stagnant. Our music will be thoughtful but never pretentious. Our audience will have just as much fun as we're having... and we live for this S$%T! This is the trumphant return of 8-Legged Monster to the Climate stage!

Lorin Benedict Jazz vocalist of a different sort. He uses his voice like an instrument. Go click his link and hear him! The Lorin Benedict 4 featuring Eric Vogler- bass, Hamir Atwal- drums, Kasey Knudsen- alto sax and Lorin on Vocals. They're all really amazing musicians and it should be a very intense performance.

There are no performances on Tuesday December 23 and Tuesday December 30.  Happy Holidays!
